Norwegian Food!!

Texas has a lot of great places to eat out, and it is cheap (compared to Norway) . However, there is nothing like a great home cooked meal. This last week Ellen has really stepped up her game, twice. On Sunday, when Tom and Faith was here, she made Komper (potato dumplings). Komper is one of my favorite, if not The favorite, meal. It takes a lot of hard work, but it is all worth it. Here you can see some pictures from the process.

Here we are working on grinding the potatoes in our new Kitchenaid mixer :)

Here are a few of the potato dumplings, now with meat inside, after alot of grinding, sqeezing and mixing. Now they are ready for an hour and a half in the pot.

And here is the finished products:). We had to include some non traditional side items such as salad and carrots for the americans. Luckily we have IKEA in Houston and they provided tyttebær syltetøy (lingenberry jam) which is really important and make that final touch :) We had these for three! consecutive days (or at least I did).

And then today, Friday, she made kjøttaker (norwegian meat balls), kålstuing (cabbage stew) and potatoes. This is another very traditional meal that I have grown up with. It was not as much work as komper, but still really, really good :)

I'm looking forward to the next Norwegian thing Ellen will make. Hopefully it will be one of my favorite cakes....
