Ever seen a kid with a helmet on and wonder what's wrong with them?
Well, let me tell you!
Sometimes they wear a helmet because of something serious, like recovery from brain surgery, but usually, it's simply used to make their head a bit rounder. Noah has a slightly flat head in the back, so they use this helmet to round it out as his head grows. (like braces for the head). They come in different colors and patterns, but we made ours a bit personalized. :)
You can also see in this picture he's wearing his foot braces/bar, to correct his club foot (crooked). He only has to wear this at night now instead of the 23 hours a day, like before.
Poor little guy.
We have a love/hate relationship with the helmet.
LOVE it because he falls all the time now because he's climbing on everything and is constantly banging his little noggin. I think we've prevented at least 12 concussions because of the helmet. -Seriously.
HATE it because it's hard to cuddle with your little man with this big thing on his head.
He has to wear the helmet 23 hours a day for about 4 months, or until head flatness is gone.
Isn't it amazing what they can fix?
I think we all have somewhat of a flat head somewhere, but now they're fixing this kind of stuff!
We're just thankful that our insurance covers it.
The going rate for one of these babies (helmet, not noah) is about $3,000 buckaroos.
Shocking, I know.

How cute!! I love how you guys decorated the helmet. Wade almost needed one of those. Sometimes I wish I would have just pushed a little harder and got one for him. We had to do physical therapy with him too for tortocolis (sp?) which caused his flat head. Those 4 months he has to wear the helmet will go by so fast.

ReplyDeleteSo I just showed off this helmet to some friends that just had a baby with a small cone head. They felt so much better after they saw how cute noah was in his football gear! :)
