3 days after the hurricane - 6:30pm
Well, we survived IKE. We just got our power back which is wonderful. God really watched over us during this big storm.
During the night, it was extremely hard to sleep, we probably got about 2 hours of sleep, just because of the very loud wind and the sound of the trees and the rain. Plus, there's always that feeling that a hurricane is happening just outside your door which makes sleep not as restful. :)
The storm was bad, but worse than that, I think is being without power. It's a bit hot in Houston to be without air conditioning, but we did have water, which many others lost. -We were the lucky ones! Here are some pictures and a final video for you to see the damage at our house. Since it's not our house, (we're renting), our worst loss was all the food in the fridge and freezer. We really have nothing cold left in the house besides a few soft drinks and ketchup that seemed pretty safe to keep. :) So praise the Lord!
This tree split and most of it landed right in the pool.
This is just a bunch of leaves in the bottom of the pool. That black thing at the top is a shingle from a roof. - They were all over the place.
If you can sort of attach this and the next picture together in your mind, then you can get a better idea of what it looked like.
Preben trying to get to the other side so he could get in the guest house to get out our camping cooking pots and pans. :)
Here's the view of the tree from the other side. This is the side of the entrance of the guest house.
We drove around our neighborhood to see others' houses, and we saw mostly a lot of trees and fences down.
That's all for now. We might post some more of the clean up later, but I'm sure you are all tired of hearing/ seeing stuff from the hurricane.
11:30pm/23:30hrs
Well, we're heading to bed now, but all we hear is a lot of wind. We're still in the outer bands of the storm. It should start getting worse around midnight. We just made some bread to hold us over if the power goes out and we can't cook anything. Peanut butter & Jelly for life! Anyway, it's kind of a weird feeling, like waiting... like Jesus is about to come back any second or something. :)
If we don't update in the morning, don't get scared (moms), our power is probably just out and we won't be able to get online.
Nighty night!!

The conditions have somewhat deteriorated. It's overcast and the wind is a little stronger. It is however, no more than an average windy day.
To show you all where we live and where people are evacuating from, Ellen has made this little picture.
Below you can see the size and the projected path of the Ike...Heading right our way!As you can see, the storm is pretty big!

11am/11:00hrs
It's 11am, still nice outside, but the big monster will soon make its impact. We'll update this site this site several times today with the pictures and the latest to give you our story :)
We're staying in Houston. Many people have chosen to evacuate, but most of these live on the south side of the city or closer to the Gulf.
We have prepared as good as we can. We have bought the water, the food and the gas that we need. As you can see, we were not the only ones in need of bread. Luckily we have a bread maker :)
We only hope that the power will last so we can still have air conditioning. But i guess we will just have to wait and see.
All outstide stuff that is not tied to the ground is moved into the garage. Luckily we have not lived here long enough to gather to much stuff. I just hope that there won't be any damage to our cars....

Our neighbor, Albert across the street has really gone all out and bought a lot of plywood (i'm sure he got a good deal since his wife, works at Home Depot :)

Stay put, and we will try to provide an update hour by hour or so... and if you don't see any new post you can probably assume that we have lost power or dead. (just kidding moms) = time to pray :)
wow you guys, you've been busy on the blogging!!! haha. It's great. Cool feature with the weather videos. Coby has just painted one of the CNN weather guys' condos here in Atlanta, by the way! Rob Marciano is the guy, if you see him on TV. Pretty cool.
